April 2019 - Banff Playwrights Lab and Onward!

Updated: Aug 21, 2019

In April 2019, "Rella's Cambrian Dream" was invited to be part of the Playwrights Lab at the Banff Centre for Arts & Creativity. The playwright & director were invited too! (Thanks to director Brian Quirt & team!)

This glorious retreat is, coincidentally, 80 km from the scene of our story: A mere 500 million years ago, all this was the floor of a warm equatorial ocean!

The First Reading of "Rella's Cambrian Dream" -- Apr 26, 2019. Directed by Christine Brubaker.

A cast of ten of Canada's finest actors became arthropods for a day.

... So close to the Burgess Shale fossil beds (UNESCO World Heritage Site; one of the most significant discoveries in science history). it would be wrong not to drive to Yoho National Park and pay a visit. So, writer & director visited.

The Yoho Park Visitors' Centre features a small but amazing exhibit of Cambrian fossils and information. (Look in the filing cabinet to see real fossils!)

THIS, btw, is our hero, "Rella" -- a marrella splendens. And our director's pinky.

Director was glad to pay the visit.

Playwright glad too!

Oh, and we're coming back! Plans made. In Sept 2019, we aim to return, with full Creative Team - and hike UP, UP, UP -- to the Burgess Shale.

See you there! // mob 2019
